PAPERLESS EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN NIGERIA: PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
Keywords:
Education, Digitalization, Paperless,Abstract
The increasing integration of digital technologies in education has led to the emergence of paperless educational systems, which aim to minimize or eliminate the use of paper in teaching, learning, and administrative processes. In Nigeria, traditional paper-based practices have contributed to inefficiencies, high operational costs, poor record management, and limited access to information. This chapter examines the concept of a paperless educational system and explores its potential to enhance administrative efficiency, improve accessibility, reduce operational costs, and promote environmental sustainability. It also discusses the major challenges facing the adoption of paperless systems in Nigeria, including infrastructural deficits, limited digital literacy, resistance to change, high implementation costs, cybersecurity threats, and inequitable access to technology. The chapter concludes by highlighting practical strategies and policy interventions that can facilitate the successful implementation of paperless education in Nigeria. By addressing both the benefits and the barriers, this chapter provides a comprehensive framework for educational stakeholders seeking to modernize the Nigerian education system and align it with global digital trends.
