This study examines the socio-economic implications of the Middle East crisis, with particular emphasis on Iraq, on Nigeria’s development. Although geographically distant, conflicts in the Middle East significantly influence Nigeria through global oil market fluctuations, geopolitical instability, and economic interdependence. The study adopts a qualitative analytical approach, drawing on secondary data from reputable local and international sources. It finds that volatility in oil prices, often triggered by crises in Iraq and the broader Middle East, has mixed consequences for Nigeria’s economy, contributing to inflation, fiscal instability, and reduced real investment in key social sectors. The education sector is affected through declining household income and inconsistent government funding, while the health sector faces rising operational costs and reduced accessibility. Security challenges are exacerbated by economic stress and the indirect spread of global instability, and social welfare conditions deteriorate due to increased cost of living and poverty levels. The study concludes that Nigeria’s vulnerability to external shocks underscores the need for economic diversification and stronger social protection systems. Policy recommendations are provided to mitigate these impacts and enhance national resilience.
