The assessment process is a cornerstone of educational systems, serving not only as a mechanism for evaluating learning outcomes but also as a feedback loop that informs instructional strategies and curriculum development. In Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL) environments, where learners are often geographically dispersed and may have limited direct interaction with instructors, traditional assessment methods face unique challenges and require innovative adaptations. This chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of the theoretical foundations, practical applications, and technological advancements in assessment and proctoring within ODeL programmes. It explores the implications of diverse learner profiles, the role of formative and summative assessments, the integration of technology in remote evaluation, and the ethical considerations surrounding digital proctoring. Drawing from recent literature and case studies, this chapter outlines best practices and future directions for ensuring equitable, effective, and academically sound assessment systems in ODeL settings
